I have just developed a tool for After Effects that can read EDL files, create a composition and edit image sequences in this composition basing on data from EDL and frame numbers from the sequence. The tool is very useful when you get the footage from telecine session in the form of image sequences where the file names represent the timecode. How many times did you have to re-create the edits just by hand? Wouldn't it be good just to run the script that will do it for you? It is just a matter of time when this tool will be available for you. At the moment I am testing it using my own projects and it seems that everything is 100% fine, but before releasing it, I'd like to be aware of all the problems that may arise.
