You probably noticed that when you loaded the topProjection map as
projection, a green line appeared in the top view (Fig. 6). If you
change to Perspective view, you will see that what appeared is not a
line but the projection plane (Fig. 7).
Fig. 6 - Fig. 7Since we need to project the texture map onto the top of the model we have to rotate the projection plane:
1. Go back to the top view
2. Window>Rendering Editors>Multilister
3. 2Click(double click) on the
projection icon (Fig. 8)
4. Click the
place3dTextute tab in the projection window that opens
5. Write -90 in the Rotate field under
Transform Attributes (Fig. 9)
6. Click the Fit to group bbox button under 3D Texture Placement Attributes (Fig. 10)

Fig. 8 - Fig. 9
Fig. 10 - Fig. 11
Fig. 12 - Fig. 13
Fig. 14As you can see (Fig. 10), clicking the Fit to group bbox button the
projection plane
changes its position and scale because it fits the model (Fig. 11). But
from a closer view you can see that the projection plane is few pixels
away from the border of the model (Fig. 12). This because the
projection plane considers the CVs and not the geometry, as you can see
in (Fig. 13) and (Fig. 14) (remember that the CVs of a NURBS surface
can lie away from the geometry).
So, if you render the top view you will see something like the picture below (Fig. 15):
Fig. 15This happens because you have to scale and move the projection plane untill it fits the geometry.
1. In the top view select the
projection plane
2. Move the Scale/Move handles (Fig. 16) untill the projection plane
fits the tortoise shell
(Tip the handles dont appear, click
the on
the shelf)
Fig. 16 - Fig. 17 If you need to rotate the projection plane click the crossGo very close to the projection plane to be sure it fits the model (Fig. 18)
Fig. 18Adjust the projection plane untill in your rendered image correctly appears the border all around the tortoise-shell:

Fig. 19 - Fig. 20As you can see, now, the border runs all around the model (Fig. 19).
Another
important particular to notice: the "excess" of gaudy color (Fig. 20)
doesnt appear on the top of the tortoise shell and, at the same time,
allows little imprecisions:
