I can\'t help but to think that it is a little bit sad that, what was once free knowledge and information is now content that costs money. I know that many of the tutorials displayed in the Gnomonology sections were free. There is still a pretty rich community of free resources out there for students without constantly draining your wallet. I just hope that this doesn\'t become a trend....

I don\'t know that\'s supposed to be sad, unless we\'re all so spoiled that we think everything is supposed to be free now. There are some nice tutorials out there for free, and that\'s great. But it\'s silly to imagine people are going to put in the same effort into something for free as they do if they get paid. That\'s not sad, that\'s just life. Time will tell if Gnomon\'s offerings are worth their price. If it\'s worth the price, then they\'ll prosper, and good for them. If it\'s not worth the price, they won\'t prosper and people will go elsewhere.

When I started in this industry thier were no websites at all. There were no tutorials from anyone, no free shaders, or scripts to download. Now there are so many free sites with plenty of information to teach yourself maya or any other piece of software I don\'t understand why anyone would have a problem with someone charging a price for a better product. That is how most software is made. Firt it is free sharware and eventually it costs money. You have to pay to play. If you don\'t want to pay, just keep searching the web for free stuff. The difference is that much of the free information is useless and actually down right wrong. Since time is money why waist time sifting through bogus tutorials when you can get a higher level of learning from a trusted industry source for a nominal fee? The choice is yours.

I second capnkirk. About 2/3 of all tutorials out there are either. Flawed, broken, outdated or at worst a workaround based on a common misunderstanding (which is surprisingly common since these things tend to get most support, and are most damaging to your development, even gnomon isnt completely impervious to theese)

Anyway you have all that knowledge for free... its just a another thing altogether if you can utilize it in that capacity. Anyaway thats the price you pay for someone screening your material thoroughly.

I enjoy the free tutorials, haven\'t come across any that are wrong. Besides why pay for tutorials when theirs bittorent?
