Autodesk Introduces Maya Muscle Functionality for Autodesk Maya 2008SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Dec. 10, 2007 - Autodesk, Inc. has launched Autodesk Maya 2008 Extension 1 software, which introduces Maya Muscle functionality into the 3D modeling, animation, visual effects and rendering solution. This comprehensive muscle and skin system, recently acquired from Comet Digital, LLC, allows artists to create life-like skin motion through features that let them precisely direct muscle and skin behavior. The toolset integrates extremely well with the Maya architecture and overall workflow, enabling it to be used in isolation, interconnected with other Maya features, or customized and scaled as needed.

Maya Muscle provides technical directors and animators with the tools they need to create detailed skin articulation and animation. These include advanced muscle and skin sculpting and deformation tools, as well as extensive jiggle and weighting options, like slide, sticky and wrinkle weights.

In addition, Maya Muscle can increase artists' productivity by taking advantage of familiar user interface and workflow features included in Maya 2008, such as the software's brush-based interface. At the same time, it
delivers a number of tools, including automatic rigs, real-time jiggle tweaking, and file caching, designed specifically to make the process of achieving secondary character motion.

Hats off to you all who still argue \"which package is the best!\" I look for a work flow solution that encompasses all types of software.
to argue a single packages advantage over another for any purpose I see valid would be for independent freelancer looking for an all round package like Max/Maya/Cinema4D/Xsi and the regions most are used, like Canada being Xsi/Maya dominant, and Australia Max/Maya, just in case you want to outsource some of the extra work to an available user base you can find common ground and local support with this software in the region you are using it.
So the \"bile throwing criticism\" here is pointless, like at a tech college arguing between classes which package is the best. its not a football club its software and how you use it is entirely up to you...
One more thing,
cMuscle worked well for Maya 7.0 but in 8+ it was unstable when dealing with skin influence, it should be stable in Maya 2008 and if not \"the Dreaded Autodesk\" will be on top of it with the support they offer in cMuscle\'s current incarnation, however I hope they include it in the future releases of Maya, because as far as off the shelf Muscle systems go that are artist friendly, this one is by far the best.
And the geometry caching in Maya would cut out the need to have license\'s for all your machines, If I\'m correct the cMuscle system had an \"aggressive\" licensing scheme and Maya 7.0 did not have a native geometry cache, and I think 8+ looked over the skin influence when caching the geometry, so with all this sorted out in 2008 we should see a fairly well integrated and \"polished\" muscle system.
