Maya (.ma, .mb) - v2011
Version 4.0 is ready! Spring controls! Control Particle Display Size! How superfluous!
This is an update to my earler smokestrings generator - It's useful for the elusive cigarette smoke effect, but it can be used for any type of ribbon-smoky effect, and I'm sure there are other uses I haven't thought of. Thank you to everyone who's submitted rig update suggestions
Awesome features:
1. Generate a dynamic "ribbon" like realisitc cigarette smoke 2. Create funky and weird dynamic simulations, go wild and I'm sure you'll discover more possibilities than I did 3. Create a 3d "Light trail" 4. Offer consolidated dynamics controls through the main locator 5. Outputs poly mesh 6. Attach to any object as a smoke generator 7. Have as many emitters in a scene as you need 8. Interact with any collision objects or fields you wish to include 9. Generate ribbon at any size and thickness. 10. Runs REALTIME (No scripts - all nodes!) 11. Accept any mesh operators 12. User Friendly! Just hit play and you've got Smoke Strings! 13. Documentaion included
Please note, rig cannot:
Have smoke "Break apart" - the ribbon must be one long continuous stream without holes in it) Have smoke Start, stop and start again.
User Notes:
This rig is optimized for 24fps. If you are working in another framerate (Settings, not playback speed) You must change the "Control Emitter" Rate to whatever your current frame rate is. I tried to connect this automatically but could not figure out how to get Maya to return it's own frame rate settings. Also - playback should be set to "Play every frame" Like any dynamic sim. The Springs in this version have been set up to accomodate a 500 frame scene. Springs will not generate beyond this scene length.
