This lambert shader is designed to simulate the surface of a small rocky moon or planet, or can be applied to less round shapes for asteroids and meteors. It was created in Maya 6.5 so I can't comment on whether it will also work in version 7.

Control the overall colour using the remap ramp and the size of the impact craters by adjusting the single place3DTexture.
