Hard to install (after out it uses pymel) but once up and running this is a great tool! Very useful.

It works great. One aditional feature I would like is I could choose percentage of polygons of original object in proxy. 10% of million polys is still a lot!

Problems with start!
Copy the python script file (wCreateMrProxy.py) to my local
c:\Documents and Settings\Admin\My Documents\maya\2008\scripts

1) into the Maya python command line type: from wCreateMrProxy import *

from wCreateMrProxy import *
# Traceback (most recent call last):
# File "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2008\Python\lib\site-packages\maya\app\python.py", line 17, in formatException
# result = stringBuffer.getvalue().decode('utf8')
# File "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2008\bin\python25.zip\encodings\utf_8.py", line 16, in decode
# UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode bytes in position 120-121: invalid data

2)Usage:
create your polymesh HiRes object, apply materials, combine all parts,
select your HiRes poly transform nodes and type wCreateMrProxy()
wCreateMrProxy()
# Error: name 'wCreateMrProxy' is not defined
# Traceback (most recent call last):
# File "<maya console>", line 1, in <module>
# NameError: name 'wCreateMrProxy' is not defined #

Write please more detailed instruction on use script (I with Python at all did not work)

[give me installation description and uses ]

open the file content in your script editor (python tab) and .... execute or select all lines and drag (middle mouse button) to the shelfbar to create a quick run button.

ps. PYMEL IS NO MORE NECESSARY.

(ps2. this new highend site is very bad.)

[I am unable to make it work with Maya 2009. I get a ton of errors, but if nobody responds here then I won't bother posting it up. This tool may be outdated now; didn't work for me yet.]
