I was just thinking about how ridiculous it is that this isn't already possible in maya, so I decided to research the issue. Thank god somebody wrote a script for this. I haven't tried it yet but my excitement for this was too great to wait and write a response! I'll implement this script immediately!!!

really good layer editor... it has some drawing issues on maya 8, hope to you continue developing this.. maybe add a colour option? each layer row with a possibility of choosing a background colour?

Great tool. I wish this was created sooner. The only thing is when Ever ai hide a layer under a group and try to view the object again I cannot. I have to go back to Maya's layers to veiw the object in that particular layer. Is this just my pc or is there a smally tiny bug with this script? I would love to use this script instead of mayas layers.
