ultraRibbonBones creates a ik-splinehandle setup with a curve to control local orientation of joints anywhere on curve. This allow you to have full control and no flipping. You can tie knots with no flipping.
Use with ribbons, rollercoasters, tails ect.

you need closestPointOnCurve from maya bonustools 7 8 or 2008 for the script to work.

Its a modification of a script used in production so im not 100% sure theres no bugs.
