Dear mentols,

i have face problem in rendering with maya mental ray, and setting as below,

mental ray
production fine trace preset

final gather
accurancy:100
point density: 1
point interpolation: 10

problem: i have 2 models in a scene have to be rendered in 2 seperate layers.

there are dots flickering around for model 01. but it's perfect and there are no flickering dots at model 02.

render images are below,

MODEL 01: (with flickering)
flicker render

MODEL 02: (perfect render)
perfect render

Question: May i know what is the problem why both of the models rendered in a same scene setting, Model 01 is with flicker but Model 02 is not? i have tried to change the texture of model 01, but problem is not solve.

Anyone knows?

really appreciate your replies~

thanks~

Assuming that the objects have no shadows casting on the other layer, the simple explanation would be that there is less space for final gather to light in one layer as opposed to the other layer.

I would increase accuracy and point density first, and then add a filter. In the render settings, under the Indirect Lighting tab, look up Final Gather Quality and up the filter to perhaps 3 to test. It adds a little filter to the image,.

A similair technique prevents bitmap textures from flickering when applied to animation, only it is applied automatically then.

Try blurring your HDRI; if FG is sampling from a spikey or pixelated image this can cause flicker and other problems. Blurring also helps render time too as FG is sampling from a smoother curve.
