As of right now, Discreet has made no anoucement to support the Fuel workstation, Fuel has no video I/O and no second processor. The new SGI Dmedia Pro DM5 looks like it is for Octane2 only. I think the price will stay high because those products like flame and smoke are focusing on HD. They need the bigger SGI box (Octane2). The actual price of the SGI machine is maybe a third of the smoke /flame price. The SGI is not the reason for high prices. There are the very expensive Discreet stone drives, plus the R&D and branding Discreet has tied up in the advanced prodcuts.

There is a listing now for a version of the DM5 possibly comming to the Fuel on sgi's page, but not untill fall.
With the SGI FUEL coming out, and I would guess it would be as fast or faster than an Octane ? So it shopuld run FLame and Smoke...
Anyway will the cost of a Flame come down ?
Or will the hardware expense be the only thing in the near furture?
