Why would you use a wire deformer? Wire deformers deform surfaces with wire like efflectors. Certainly not something you would use for the cord of a yoyo. I
since a yoyo string is pretty much always pulled taught, maybe rig some kind of simple ik joint system through the string for the subtleties of the 'twang' as the yoyo hits bottom etc, then use set driven keys for the rotation of the yoyo as it heads up and down the y axis?

Well with wire deformer I thought I could make the cord react to the weight of the yo-yo and the finger that tosses it...but it doesn't wrap around the yo-yo
@tom
really? SO you are saying set up the cord as simple ik joints and then use the animation of the yoyo winding up and rotating to wind the string.... hmmm... so the string would wrap around the yoyo because it mimics the yo-yo's rotation....
could you explain that more?
Ok update right now I am trying to make the yo-yo do more complicated things... So I decided to look around to see if there were other similar animations that were not yo-yo related but could be still used. I want to try to use the similar style of animation used in the Soul Calibur game from the IVY character-- mainly her whip. Does anyone know any tutorials on her whip/bow weapon. I like the fact it can wrap around unknown objects and also be used to change shape. It has a fluid style that can be used in yo-yo animations.
So basic short question how do I make IVY's weapon animation in MAYA?

Hi All!
Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial for Yoyo animation?
I am currently working on yoyo animation but I am having problems setting up the wire deformers and animating it.
Thanks!
